On Saturday Lincoln Park in Jacksonville was filled with residents of all ages for the "Fifth Annual Jacksonville Juneteenth Celebration". For months the Jacksonville Juneteenth Revitalization Committee had been working with local businesses to bring the community together, and to remember a day that changed history forever; the day slavery ended in Texas.

The committee's hard work paid off. Hundreds came to rejoice the day the slaves were freed in Texas.

Jacksonville Juneteenth Revitalization Committee President explains the importance of the holiday saying,"We were free two years prior to Texas knowing, to the South knowing so it's recognition of knowledge it's recognition of where you started. What we're doing is recognizing the past so we can come together and move forward prosperous, together as one."
