Tyler, Texas — Colored pencils, construction paper, and backpacks are just some of the many items on children's school supply lists each year; but this year thousands of East Texas students they won't be able to afford these items.
This summer fundraisers are starting all across East Texas to help these kids. PATH, People Attempting To Help, in Tyler has started a "School Supply Train" campaign for the month of July.
PATH resources coordinator Becky Duncan says, " There are at least twenty-two thousand children in Smith County who need assistance. We collect school supplies for the children of Smith county and supply more than 97,000 school supply items."
The city of Jacksonville is also busy working together with churches and local businesses for the 8th Annual Children's Events and Health Fair. While the event does not happen until August 1st, the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and various local businesses and churches have already started planning the event.
If you would like to donate to the Jacksonville fundraiser, donations will be taken at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Jacksonville. Donations for PATH can be dropped off at the Tyler Fire Department.
