As Houston braces for an icy, wintry storm. Some East Texas TxDOT  workers have volunteered to head down to the Bayou City to keep roads safe.

The convoy from East Texas includes 20 workers from Tyler, Mineola, and Longview. 12 trucks including eight dump trucks deployed from the TxDOT station in Henderson this afternoon.

The convoy is bringing large amounts of salt to prevent slick roads and chains to help stranded drivers.

TxDOT workers who volunteered for the task are prepared to work around the clock to make roads for Houstonians as safe as possible.

TxDOT Public Information Officer Larry Krantz says the worker's dedication is admirable.

""which speaks a lot to the kind of employees we have here, voluntarily taking time away from family and going into situations that can be dangerous if they're not approached correctly. "
