Many East Texans came out to Bergfeld Park in Tyler on Saturday for the 16th Annual Susan G. Komen ‘Race for the Cure.”

Breast Cancer survivors and supporters laced up to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. Bergfeld Park was filled with smiles, emotion and pink.

We spoke to an eight-year breast cancer survivor, Ruth Solomon of Frankston, she says being a part of the event is a wonderful thing, she really couldn’t express it words. “We are working for a cure that’s why we are here.”

Billy Moore of Henderson tells us there’s no place he’d rather be. “My mother passed away from cancer three weeks ago and I’m sorry we lost her but I’m glad we can support my wife and be here for her.” Moore’s wife Belissa is a six-year breast cancer survivor. “It’s really awesome to have great support and love,” said Belissa Moore. Her sister Barbara Jordan was also there by her side.

Ashley Sullivan of Henderson was full of emotion, she will be a one-year breast cancer survivor in September. Sullivan says it made her day when her mom, niece and best friend walk with her to support this cause.

Every year the Susan G. Komen ‘Race for the Cure’ lands on Mother’s Day Weekend in Tyler. “I would like to thank everyone for coming here and supporting us and God Bless everyone.”
