East Texans seek ways to help West explosion victims
Longview — Northeast Texans were quick to reach out Thursday to the community of West after an explosion at a fertilizer plant killed as many as 15 people in the Central Texas town.
“We have seen a huge turnout today,” said Bob Mauldin, regional spokesman for Carter Blood Center. “We’ve had a lot of folks coming in at our Tyler donor center and also in Longview.”
Carter sent 300 units of blood from its location in the Fort Worth suburb of Bedford to its sister facility in Waco after Wednesday’s explosion.
