East Texans Sound Off on Consumer Spending
July 1, 2009 - 6:40am
EAST TEXAS— Although the holiday shopping season is months away, retailers are already making plans to ensure consumers are spending this year.
Last year, retail chains reported the worst holiday shopping season in decades. According to the International Council of Shopping Centers, 2008 industry sales fell 2.2 percent for the holiday shopping season, the biggest decline since 1970.
We asked East Texans to sound off on what they think businesses should do to get customers through the door.

Offer discounts for sure, but also package discounts. For example, put a TV on sale and give a stand away free. Or offer bigger discounts if you purchase a pair of items that go together, like a washer/dryer set. East Texans like bargains.
