Tyler, Tx (KETK) — A Texas representative filed a bill to allow licensed Texans to openly carry their firearms.
If passed, Texans with concealed handgun licenses can carry their handguns in shoulder or on their belt holsters.
For years, people have pushed lawmakers to make this legal for gun owners. Representative George Lavender from Texarkana says this bill has a good chance of passing in this session.
We spoke with some East Texans today and some are supportive of this legislation while others are a little skeptical. You can see their responsed in the above video.

Hillarygal you live in a " what if " world, you can't see anything as it really is. Why don't you move to another country where the people are not allowed to have guns, which is any country besides the U.S. and see how you like criminals having weapons including guns and all you are allowed to have is a rock in your purse to protect yourself. Instead of open carry it should be any citizen is allowed to carry as long as they meet certain requirements. You are right Mr Smith.
Haha Suzukirider, you are so right !! I would have said it more like this; Snydergal consider this scenario, you're a nut, and a racist nut at that !
I'm retired Law Enforcement. I would like to know that all my former Law Enforcement Officers were armed to assit law enforcement with any situation that may arise.
Consider this scenario...you are in your car, you're walking in your neighborhood, you're having a great dinner in a very nice restaurant...you are innocent and unaware of anything going wrong around you...two angry people have an argument that is escalating near you and guns are brandished and shots are fired...you are caught in the crossfire and now you're "collateral damage"...this is a tragic bill innocent people will pay for with their lives. The wild west...alive and well in Texas.
When Neal wears an American flag lapel pin it's like he has to advertize his patriotism, kinda like when the a car dealer puts a sign on the windshield "Clean". If it is then, you don't have to tell me. I know you're not really patriotic Neal because I watched KETK ignore Ron Paul's campaign and you said nothing about it. When a person openly carries a weapon they advertize authority and nothing makes a cop more mad than to see a citizen exhibit authority. I support the right.
Here is how I look at open carry (with or without a CHL.)
If the carrier has a snatch resistant holster like police use, I'd just consider it up to the individual. BUT, it is not wise to show the gun due to it being easy to snatch by someone who wants it (and this has been done in Arizona where open carry is allowed.) That is my main concern.
I would like if my weapon is inadvertently exposed to not be in trouble with the law (it can be suspended if you have that happen now.)
Stopped by an Oklahoma trooper on the shoulder of I-40, anarchist Tim McVeigh was asked to produce his driver's license. As he reached for his back pocket his jacket opened and revealed a shoulder holstered weapon. The officer instantly reached-out with his left hand and gripped the weapon while with his right hand he drew his own weapon and pointed it at McVeigh's head."Be carefull", McVeigh warned, " My weapon is loaded". The trooper replied, "So is mine".
