Tyler , TX (KETK) — Two weeks ago a campfire accident severely burned 12-year-old Jacob Session of Jacksonville. His mother, Angie Session, told KETK, "they had a camp fire and they were going to roast marshmallows, and he tripped and fell is what happened and he's burned over 71% of his body." Jacksonville Fire Chief Paul White said gasoline was involved, and is what caused the severity of the burns. He said, "gasoline vapors are heavier than air and they spread real fast and you don't see them and it will flash back and we see people burned pretty bad."
Of the 71% of his body burned, 30% are third degree burns. His mother said he's in almost non-stop pain, and has had four surgeries so far. "We're watching our son go through things that first of all, no baby should ever have to go through, and second, no parent should watch their baby go through," said Session.
However she said one thing has put a smile on his face, the support group Facebook page. (Jacob's Recovery) Whenever his parents told him there were more than 1,400 likes on the Facebook, his mom said, "the edges of his face kind of crinkled up a bit, he smiled, and it actually brought tears to his eyes. He was very, very encouraged by that."
As far as how the family is, Session said they continue to remain strong, because of the overwhelming amount of support. "The more positive we can keep his mind focused, the faster his little body is going to heal from all of this,' said Session. Businesses in Jacksonville are acting as drop off places for donations, and signs saying 'Pray for Jacob' are around town. You can drop off donations at Denny's and CJ's Convenience Store in Jacksonville. There are also two t-shirt campaigns to help raise funds.
