East Texas Idol 2014
Tyler, TX (KETK) — The 7th annual East Texas Idol competition brought together contestants from across the area, all hoping to earn one of five tickets that will take them straight to American Idol producers and judges.
KETK spoke with one of the local judges, Robinhood Brians, who said, "There's a lot of talent in East Texas. So I wonder, hey, we might even choose a winner for the whole contest, who knows".
Each performer brought a unique style to the stage. Artists like Charles White, who traveled all the way from Oklahoma to audition. White shared, "I guess I just decided to pick up a guitar one day and started playing". However, talent was not in short supply from locals, who conquered power ballads from artists like Adele and Miranda Lambert. Stephanie Born said, "I'm also a youth minister here in Tyler, and I've done voice ever since I can remember".
The director of the contest, K.J. Lambein, said his goal is, "Just get somebody to make it on TV. That's my goal! You know in January when those auditions happen, that's what I want to see".
More than 20 contestants competed for the tickets. However all performers have one dream, making it to American Idol.
