East Texas Independence Day Tea Parties

July 4, 2009 - 6:47pm

TYLER - Hundreds came out Saturday in the triple digit heat to rally together.

Several East Texans voiced their opinions on signs and held them high.

Not only were they rallying Saturday, each person who came out to the protest signed a pledge that will be sent to Washington that spells out what they believe is wrong with the government today.

Even State Representative Leo Berman took part in the rally and signed the pledge.

"He wants to move us to the far left of socialism," Representative Berman says.

The one side we haven't heard much from throughout these tea parties these past few months are the Democrats.

We spoke to David Henderson, Chair of the Smith County Democratic Party, to see what they think about these rallies.

He just wants to know one thing, "What I want to know is where were all these fiscal conservatives when Bush was quadrupling the national debt?"

Leo's response? Where were the Democrats?
