GODTEL Ministries is an East Texas organization that fulfills the needs of the homeless. GODTEL stands for God's open door to eternal life. They have now implemented a program that helps equip men with the right tools to get a job. "This program will work if you let it work," said Stephen Jandes, a graduate of their 'Jobs for Life' program. Jobs for Life is an eight week course giving men 17 years and older a chance to turn their lives around.

They are trained for job interviews, public speaking, and basic skilled jobs like welding. The faith-based program also intertwines scripture, helping the men spiritually. "We try to alleviate all their needs so that they can spend their time looking for a job and looking for the opportunities that are in the communities where they live," said Martin Baker, VP of GODTEL. So far, nine men have graduated from JFL in Lufkin, including Jandes. "I'm very grateful that there was a place like this to come," said Jandes.

He told KETK two years ago he was homeless and not happy with his life. He said it was "my irresponsibility, the way i treated my family, and the way i ran away from jobs."

After he graduated from the program, he began working as a car washer at a detail shop, but now he has moved up to a manager position. "I just think wow, two years ago, you weren't here, you were in a different spot," said Jandes. He also said he believes none of this would've been possible without GODTEL, or God, himself. "If you're at the bottom, you've got to work yourself up, and you've got to use god to work yourself that way," said Jandes.

Baker said its that revelation that is the purpose of the program. He said, "Jesus told us to go and preach the gospel and help the needy and the poor, and so that's what we try to do," said Baker.

Baker is still recruiting men for the Jobs for Life program this fall. Their first meeting will be September 21st, and for more information call this number - (936) 637-2520. There office is located here - 323 Moody St, Lufkin, TX 75901.
