Longview, Tx (KETK) — Autism affects 1 in 68 children and health officials say that number is on the rise.
One East Texas mother is doing all she can to make sure her autistic son, Ryder, gets the specialized education he needs.
Ami Pitts is trying to raise $10,000, tuition for just one year at The Crisman School in Longview.
She says she thinks even if he only gets the specialised education for one year, it can make a huge difference.
Ami started a Go Fund Me website Thursday to raise the money.
The Crisman school is the only school in East Texas with a curriculum specialised for children with Autism and learning disabilities.
Ami says Ryder is a happy, active four-year-old.. but his Autism causes him to have difficulty communicating.
She says the curriculum at Crisman will let Ryder realize his full potential.
Ami says she hopes her son can learn three little words ..that would be priceless.
" All kids..especially young ones are I like I love you mom..i love you mom..and I have never got that..and would just..love it."
