East Texas reacts to Alabama principal banning Easter images from school

A principal at an Alabama elementary school banned the word Easter from an activity the students were going to participate in.

The principal of the school says the academic egg hunt is "affiliated with the Christian holiday Easter and that would be against the rules."

"We just try to make sure that we don't say the Easter bunny so we don't infringe on the rights of others because people relate the Easter bunny to religion," said Heritage Elementary school principal Lydia Davenport.

Deacon Bill Necessary says religion is somewhat a sensitive subject in public schools.

Matt Oxler theology teacher at Bishop Tk Gorman High School says as long as Christians remember the true meaning of the religious holiday, there is nothing wrong in participating in  "Easter activities."

"Christ comes into the world to give us life. It says in John's Gospel, we should live life to the fullest and for kids it's playing games and having candy," said Oxler.

But the connection between a bunny and an egg hunt still puzzles many religious experts.

"How anyone can connect the Easter bunny with the resurrected Christ or an Easter egg to an empty tomb is simply beyond me, " said  Immaculate Conception Fr. Anthony McLaughlin.

I do not think that God has any opinion on this issue. The egg is a symbol of rebirth. Who really cares if anyone approves of this . God is God - He is not in a debate with foolish men, nor does He approve of deviant marriage - regardless of what the supreme court says. The creator says, Come to me for forgiveness of sin. Nothing else matters.
