This time of year we always think about providing children in our area with piles of presents, but we tend to forget about our seniors needing gifts as well.  Some of our elderly will not open any gifts, or see any family on Christmas Day.

The East Texas Radio Group, and Meals on Wheels are collecting items as the "Santas" for seniors. "There's so many seniors in East Texas that we forget about, and when you reach out to a senior that is home bound and alone, it really means a lot. " said Gary Walker, East Texas Radio Group.

The Santas for Seniors drive has been going on since Thanksgiving, and this is their second annual drive.  As they deliver for Meals on Wheels, they have also been handing out gifts.  It's simple presents like socks or blankets that truly make an impact.  "Theres always someone out there less fortunate and i think this time of year it's a blessing we can always give the gift away," said Kay Odom, Tyler Senior Center supervisor.

The Tyler Senior Center is very grateful for what these groups are doing for our community.  "It's a really important drive...children are great and i think Santa is wonderful, but we also need to think about Santa coming to the senior center and 55 and older receiving things as well," said Odom.

Even though we think about donating more in the holidays, the senior center wants to remind East Texans our seniors are in need all year round.

Can't wait for Christmas Day!! First time delivering Meals on Wheels...we'll have silly reindeer hats and sing (or hum) carols together for those we are privileged to serve. For people like deaf smith, Sheila Jackson, and all others who yammer and sling mud about all that they perceive is bad in the universe, how about thinking of others for a change next week? Shut up and do something kind and selfless for someone other than the clown you see in the mirror each morning!!

You're a stupid idiot.
