East Texas towns plan cancer fundraisers
Longview, Kilgore and Gilmer will hold fundraisers for the American Cancer Society on Friday.
The Relay for Life events, which across the country raise about $400 million annually for the nonprofit organization, will each run from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday. The three events have already secured about $79,000 in pledges, according to the society’s website.
“I know that one of the biggest things that helps relays is when people just flat out show up,” said Jana Kindle Krohn, a Relay for Life specialist with the society who helps coordinate Longview’s and Kilgore’s events. “When you bring your family out there you are not only showing your support, you are going to do something there.”
The events raise money for the society in two ways.
