Mitchell and Ashley Whisenhunt knew after saying 'i do,' their lives would change, but they didn't expect how drastic that change would be. "The day we got married everything was perfect," said Ashley. On their honeymoon, Mitchell began running a high fever. This only lead to months of pneumonia. "It seemed like after that first pneumonia it was every month a couple times a month we were in the hospital," said Ashley.

Endless hospital visits and complications, including Mitchell's lung collapsing, had Ashley looking for answers. She said, "you're not supposed to put a question mark where God puts a period, but in the beginning it was just kind of.. Why?" After Watching a documentary discussing Marfan syndrome, she instantly knew. "When I googled Marfan Syndrome and looked at everything in it I'm like well you have that, you have this, you have this," said Ashley.

One DNA test later, Mitchell was diagnosed with the connective tissue disorder. "Everything, the pneumonia, the lung surgery, everything just kind of went into place," said Ashley. She said 2013 was a great year, they even became a family of 3 when they welcomed their 14-month-old daughter, Brynleigh, into the world. However, she continues to watch her husband battle against this syndrome every day. "This is not the life I would choose for anybody, not even my biggest enemy because its been hard and I really don't know how I haven't given up," said Ashley.

With a little help from her family, and the man upstairs, she stays positive, and wants to raise awareness. "If you have any concern about any family member, do the research."
