EASTON - In the small city of Easton, population about 520, mineral values increased eight million dollars last year, this while mineral values in most of Gregg County went down by about 60 percent.
That's because nine new natural gas wells have been drilled there recently.
But people in Easton say, all the drilling and extra crews are causing some problems.
With all the new wells, come more big trucks and equipment to maintain them.
The city's mayor says those trucks are tearing up the roads, and residents say the non-stop work makes the usually quiet town too noisy.
Easton's mayor says he plans to discuss the problems with the natural gas companies to make sure they help with maintaining the city's roads.
"I'd like to do an evaluation on our streets at least twice a year, every six months, to see how our streets are going because we're getting a lot of traffic in," Mayor Walter Ward says.
John Christiansen from Anadarko sent us a statement about the issue,
"...we have been in contact with the city of easton and have already provided significant funding for maintenance to cover our share of the impacts to local roads in the past, and we believe as a good operator that it is our responsibility to continue to do so in the future."
