Nacgodoches, Texas (KETK) — If you feel like eating a five pound juicy burger for a good cause, have we got a place for you! Butcher Boys in Nacogdoches is hosting a benefit to raise money for cancer research. The massive burger eating contest will be March 30 at 1:15 p.m.
Contestants will be challenged to eat a mega burger, which is a whopping five pounds, or the equivalent to 11 regular burgers. The burger does cost $20, but a portion of that will go to cancer research. And you get a free Butcher Boys t-shirt, gift card, and koozie, if you finish it in an hour.
This hits close to home for the "Butcher Boys family" because the owner, Catherine Huddleston, battled cancer. She went through an experimental program at the cancer research center MD Anderson. Now, she's cancer free. The Huddleston family wants to continue to fight the killer.
"A lot of people are just interested. They're just signing up to do it, they know they're not going to be able to, but they're interested because they know that they're money is going towards a good cause," said Huddleston's granddaughter and manager of Butcher Boys Macy Blakenship.
35 people have signed up to take on the five pounder.
