Economy impacting Hispanic East Texans
As the U.S. Recession deepens, Tyler migrants say they are sending less money home.

TYLER - Hispanic East Texans tell us they are especially suffering right now and it's not just their families here relying on their income.
As the U.S. Recession deepens, the money sent home by Mexican migrants fell in 2008 for the first time on record, Mexico's central bank said Tuesday.
According to the Associated Press emittances, Mexico's second-largest source of foreign income after oil, plunged 3.6 percent to $25 billion in 2008 compared to $26 billion for the previous year, the central bank said.
"Everybody is willing to work," said one man, standing along Beckham. "Everybody has to survive. Everybody has families."
They say when jobs do come - it's usually below minimum wage.
Across town at ADELA'S Clothing Store, the owners say business is always well.
They specialize in quinceaƱera celebrations and weddings.
The say in tough times, even for traditions, people scale back.
That's why the offer packages and find ways to help others save. The owners' of ADELA'S, the Alfaro family, are Mexican Americans. Juan Alfaro is also a realtor and is very aware of the economy and its impact across cultures. Hard times, little work for some Hispanic East Texans, but he says his family does well. Not everyone can say that.

There are alot of Mexicans who don't speak English and for us American's who don't understand Spanish will just pass them up and not to mention the law of hiring Illegals if the Fed's found out we have Illegals working on our property we will go to prison or something even worse and they will be deported and back over her in a weeks time.

The community re-investmet act signed by Clinton and ignored by Bush have served to bring this country to it''s knees . Those give away mortgages have collapsed bringing down wall stret and banks all over the world . Greedy men in high dollar suits exploiting the less fortunate with the aid of our on chamber of commerce , the Catholic church , and Big Buisiness .Neither party will accept responsibility for th biggest mistake in our history .Mean while ,the American citizen will pay the bill as the illegals continue to take jobs that un-employed Citizens need to feed thier families !
It's Past Time that our State and our Federal government hear the voice of it's own people and not just LULAC or LARAZA !

10 months agoI think this article is an outrage to even be reported. I used to live right by this place and did so for much of my life. I know for a fact that the police department turns a blind eye to the illegal aliens on Beckham and always have. Also the preacher who said that mexicans could not get jobs in Tyler is really not telling very much of the truth. Why didnt he tell how they get food stamps and dont pay taxes or how they get free rent and utilities or how they all live in one house and send the money they do get for working over to mexico and how this is a big reason our economy is hurting and american citizens can not get work because of them. He also said that they get offered low low pay but I know for a fact before the economy got bad they wouldnt work for less than $8.00 an hour. Anyone who has lived in Tyler for the past 20 years or longer knows that they have completely ruined that section of town that used to be a good neighborhood. I left there to get away from them myself and had nothing but problems from all illegal aliens in the area. I also have good Mexican American friends in Tyler so I am not racist at all. It just hurts me to see them taking away from our community by running it down to look like slums. This is all around North Tyler and its getting worse everyday.

10 months agoHi Bobby,
Thanks so much for watching KETK. Just to clarify, the gentleman whom chose not to use his name was fearful of police because he didn't know if he was allowed to stand along Beckham looking for jobs.
It was not because he's an illegal alien. As for the tone of the report, we were simply telling the story of the East Texas Hispanic community, from their eyes, as it pertains to the economy, regardless of political views.
Thanks so much,
Tamara

10 months agoIf you don't recognize the fact that the occupants of the sidewalks in the vicinity of Beckham from East Erwin north to the railroad viaduct are illegal aliens; you are not in touch with your community.
IF, a very big IF, you want to report on the economy of East Texas and how it affects the community, fine! Just please remember that if those you are reporting on are legal, they are Americans and the state of the economy affects everyone sooner or later so reporting from the perspective of our citizens is fine. Not so fine is reporting from the perspective of a subculture that should not be here; and certainly not in the sympathetic tone so common among the current anti-American media!!

10 months agoAn "immigrant" in this country is a person who has been given permission by our government to enter and reside here and they have no reason to fear being named.
Those in this article not wishing to be named are obviously "illegal aliens" and the reporter is ignoring disobedience to our immigration law by describing them as "immigrants".
Every job that one of them does is a job that could be and should be done by a citizen and despite the tone of this article, there should be no compassion for those who trespass on our sovereignty or for those who hire them.
