Increased cost of giving?
March 23, 2009 - 6:08pm
TYLER-Americans who normally don't have any problems donating money to their favorite non-profit organizations may soon be rethinking how much they give.
That's thanks to President Obama's proposed 2010 federal budget, which contains a 7 percent cut in charitable tax deductions for the nation's wealthiest taxpayers.
The people affected only make up 5 percent of the American population but are responsible for 50 percent of the donations given to charities and other non-profits nationwide.
Many church and non-profit organizations are now asking how that will affect their bottom line.
We spoke to several churches Monday who say financially there won't be much of a change. But when it comes down to it they say it's the principle of the matter.
"As a church we're concerned about it because it really begins to cross the line between church and state," Senior Association Pastor at Green Acres Baptist Church, Ken Warren said. "Your toying with the privileges and rights of someone to give to an organization that they want to give to out of convictions and your saying no we can't do that."

guess ketk believes in censorship. where is my post that i posted on 03-24-09 at approx. 6:15 am. my comments were as follows. a true christian who makes a donation to their church should not expect to receive part of that donation back at all, no matter what their annual income is. if your convictions are to JESUS CHRIST and to the church then you should not say to god, i will give my donations to the church but only if i can claim it on my taxes and get a portion returned to me. that is being a hypocrit !! i earn less than $35,000.00 annually and donate to my church each month and again on each sunday and i have never desired to claim any portion on my tax return. if i give to benifit the work of the lord, i should not expect it back.
so if you earn more than $250,000.00 annualy and do not continue to support your church because you can not get the tax break any more then your faith is in your money and not jesus christ. i will pray for those who will be hypocrits and who ever censored my post this am. DO YOU CENSOR YOUR MINISTER WHEN YOU DISAGREE ?

11 months agoif these people are donating to the church for a tax break then the only conviction the have is to their money and what i would consider hypocrits. if it is for their conviction in our lord jesus crist then it will not change at all.
