IRS: Taxpayers Filing Tax Returns Wrong

February 7, 2009 - 5:47pm

IRS officials say, many taxpayers are filing their tax returns incorrectly, because of last year's government stimulus checks.

They say, 15-percent of the tax returns received so far, include an error in reporting last year's stimulus payments as income.

The government checks aren't taxable.

And officials say, many taxpayers are mistakenly calculating the checks as income.

IRS officials say, the errors are causing filers to make higher tax payments or claim smaller refunds than they're supposed to receive.

The thing is when someone takes thier W2's to a Tax Place like H&R Block or Jackson Hewlitt when their return comes in they agency takes out 1/2 or 1/3 of your return check and people are wanting all of it so they fill them out the only way they know how by themselves
