UNDATED— On Monday in Washington the Senate opens debate on its version of an economic stimulus package.

Republicans want changes made to the proposal and apparently so does President Barack Obama. Critics point to 335-million dollars in the Senate plan to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. In addition, 25-million to spruce up trails for ATVs.

GOP senators won their call to shield more people from the alternative minimum tax, adding 70 billion to the total cost. Democrats seem open to adding a 15-thousand dollar tax credit for homebuyers.

On the Obama cabinet front, health and human services nominee, Tom Daschle, goes to senators privately Monday to ease concerns about his tax troubles.
