Teens struggle finding jobs

Only 33.6 percent nationwide have one

TYLER - If you think college graduates are having a hard time - imagine being a teen looking for part-time work this summer.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of young-people with jobs is at historic lows (33.6 percent compared to 45.6 percent in 2000).

The assistant director of the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler says jobs usually saved for part-timers in the summer - were filled months ago.

A career counselor at Robert E. Lee High School says students need jobs -not for spending money - but because their parents are out of work and they must help pay bills.

The professionals offer the following tips: don't delay the job search another day and be proactive.
