Social Security is looking at raising the bar when it comes to who is eligible.
My SS is mine.I worked hard for it all my life. Everyone else can mitts off of it. They need to get rid of all these bailouts, high bonuses, private jets, limos and return
the money to our SS.How would they like to try to live on $823.00 a month? We're always late with our utilities and house payment. I bet you a nickel against a hole in a doughnut they couldn't even begin to figure it out!!!

1 week agoI agree with Mel. Stop robbing the SS Trust Fund and start paying it back, instead of trying to cover it up. Also, another idea would be to raise the SS deduction. When my wife and I were working and paying in, they raised our deduction at least three times.

3 months agoPrivatization of our SS hopefully will NEVER happen. Has not Madoff not shown you what greed we have in corporations? A not-for-profit self sustaining organization should be set up and loans against our investments be repaid....

3 months agoWith each job that is lost here in the US we lost a worker who was paying into social security. We need to put an end to NAFTA and all of the fast track free trade agreements that G.W. Bush got us into and raise the tariffs on all goods coming into the US to the same rate that our companies pay to put our American products on the markets in other countries. we need to make all foreign workers here on visas who do not pay income tax on wages earned here pay their taxes at the same rate as American workers and pay in to social security and Medicare and Medicaid.
The Clinton & bush free trade deals need to become fair trade deals or no deal at all. Put Americans back to work and the revenue will flow into these programs like it should.

Well Rollinson, the reason we have social security is due to the crash of the stock market in 1929 which caused the great depression. just think what would have happened if all of the funds of the social security admin. were invested in the stock market when it crashed under bush and is still unstable. where would all of our money be....gone is where into the pockets of a few like Enron.
I agree with Mel. The Iraq war was funded with most if not all social security deposits during the time bush was in office and I would bet nothing has changed there either.

3 months agoI think that very few of us regular citizens know enough about the process to offer a solution. But this is what I do know. Frivolous and irresponsible spending of tax payers money continues to this day. In spite of all the promises made by various politicians. A prime example of this has occurred in my homr town of, Troup, TX. There has been literally DOZENS of ramps built on street corners, that according to Larry (The liar) Krantz, are necessary upgrades. What kind of bull is that? many of the ramps and improvements do not even lead to sidewalks, many lead to rough or unegotiable tracts of land. But guess what? Since I reported this to KETK and they did a report on the situation, not one worker or upgrade has been seen. PUT THIS MAN ON THE SPOT and dont allow him to sqirm out of this situation. He is deliberately and consistently wasting my/our tax money. TELL HIM TO STOP..."NOW".

3 months agoOne way to start is have the Federal Government pay back into Social Security what they borrowed and left IOU's for! That alone should add ten years to the program. It is unconscionable that this was allowed in the first place! That was OUR money! They stole it from us for themselves. Most people go to jail for less.....

3 months agoFirst we MUST cut spending for unnecessary medical claims. An ambulance costs $400+ just to take a patient 2 miles to a hospital. OUTRAGIOUS!
Secondly, stop paying suspicious claims from doctors and hospitals, and for those on SSI.
And third but not least..STOP TREATING ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS USING ER FOR MINOR ILLNESSES, AND DEPORT THOSE WITHOUT LEGAL DOCUMENTATION TO CONFIRM RESIDENCY STATUS.
DEMOCRATS AND REPUBS ARE FAR TOO GENEROUS WITH OUR MONEY. SPURIOUS SPENDING ON PRIVATE JET, JUNKETS, FANCY VACATIONS ON CAPE COD, AND EUROPE MUST COME TO AN END. TERM LIMIT IN OFFICE STOPS AT TWO!

3 months agoIt is time the government terminate and/or restrict SS benefits to non-U.S. Citizens. It's a shame that American senior citizens who have worked all their lives and paid into the system are getting shafted.
How can Congress approve $21.3 million to immigrate Hamas refugees - and then turn their backs on American senior citizens, their most vulnerable citizens? Maybe it's time to make a statement and vote out all incumbents who do not support or pursue measures to improve the COLA for seniors.
A more senior-specific index needs to be legislated immediately to replace the CPI that would ensure at least a minimum of 5% annual increases to seniors in order to keep up with rising health and prescription costs.
The SS system needs to be returned to the American citizens. If non-U.S. citizens want American benefits they can become American citizens.
