Educator appointed to Sabine River Authority board of directors

Sharon Newcomer, of Orange has been appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Sabine River Authority board of directors.

Newcomer, whose appointment was announced Monday, would serve a term to expire in 2017 on the nine-member board, which makes recommendations on conservation, quality and utilization of water in the Sabine River and its tributaries. The nomination is subject to confirmation by the Texas Senate.

Newcomer is a past education certification instructor at Lamar State College-Orange, and a former educator in Alaska.

She received a bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University, a master's degree in elementary education from Stephen F. Austin State University, and a master's degree in educational counseling from Oregon State University.
