El Paso officer killed in crash

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - An El Paso police officer is dead after a
car slammed into the police cruiser in which he was riding.
A police statement issued Wednesday says Officer Karl Mcdonough
was a front-seat passenger in the patrol car driven by Officer
Ricardo Lopez when it was hit broadside at an eastern El Paso
intersection just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Mcdonough died at the scene, while Lopez was in stable condition
Wednesday at University Medical Center.
The police statement identifies the driver of the other vehicle
as 19-year-old Alejandro (ah-lay-HAHN'-droh) Fierro.
He was arrested and booked into the El Paso County jail on single counts
of intoxicaton manslaughter and intoxication assault.
Bond is set at $50,000. No attorney is listed for him in jail records.
