Elections officials report busy first day of early voting

During what is traditionally considered one of the busier days of early voting, hundreds of East Texans weighed in Monday on bond proposals, alcohol measures and city and school board seats.

“Usually the way it is, the first day is good and then it slows down a little,” said Pine Tree ISD Tax Assessor-Collector Melissa Newman.

Newman said 85 voters turned out to help decide the race between Amy Brown and David English to fill a vacancy left when Trustee Craig Meek chose not to seek re-election.
