Lufkin, Texas (KETK) — An East Texas man is now behind bars after attempting to assault his wife.
It happened at 11:48 p.m. Friday in Lufkin at a home in the 2600 block of Jimmie Street.
Officers with the Lufkin Police Department were called to that home on reports of a disturbance in progress.
On arrival, authorities learned Sam L. Childress, 46, was having an argument with his wife. During the argument, witnesses in the home say Childress pulled out a gun and began waving it around.
As his wife began to call for help, Childress grabbed the phone from her hand.
Childress was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, interfering with an emergency call, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Childress is now in Angelina County Jail under a $12,000 bond.
