Officials tell KETK that an East Texas man has died from the H1N1 virus, commonly known as Swine Flu.

Nacogdoches County Memorial Hospital Nursing Director, Beth Knight, tells us that the man, whose name has not been released, passed away on Saturday. He was in his late 50's.

Knight says it is not too late to get your flu shot, "It does take a little time to take effect, but we would recommend that people that have not gotten their flu shots to go ahead and get them."

Tyler has also received a case of H1N1.

East Texas Medical Center's Public Relations director, Rebecca Berkley, has confirmed with KETK that as of December 22, 2013 there have been 59 cases of flu at the hospital. One of those cases came back positive for H1N1.

Earlier this month, two people died in Gregg County as a result of the illness.

If you have not gotten the flu shot, remember to cough into your elbow and not into the air. Also be sure to wash your hands with soap and warm water or use anti-bacterial soap.
