Early Saturday morning at 1:35 a.m., officers were called to the 900 block of Cottonwood Circle located in the Cottonwood Trailer Park for a male suspect that had discharged a firearm into the air and was thinking of killing himself.

On arrival, officers encountered the suspect with a handgun in front of a mobile home. Officers instructed him to drop the handgun but he refused and then pointed the handgun at his own head before turning and pointing the handgun at one of the officers and immediately firing more than one shot at one of the officers.

Two officers then shot the suspect, a 21 year old Hispanic male of Corsicana.

Corsicana EMS were immediately called to the scene, but the man was dead when they arrived.

None of the officers were injured.

The Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers were told of the shooting and are no conducting the investigation.

Corsicana Police Department detectives conducted an investigation to insure departmental policies and procedures were followed.

In accordance with departmental policy, all the officers involved in the shooting were placed on paid administrative leave.

The names of the officers involved in the shooting and the suspect's name has not yet been released due to the investigation still in progress.
