The Hallsville Police Department has issued the following statement regarding upcoming athletic events between Hallsville and Pine Tree:

"Let us start by saying congratulations on a great victory last Friday. Way to put the Marshall Mavericks out to pasture.

Now we face the Pine Tree Pirates. This long and deep-seated rivalry goes back a long time. In the recent past, there have been some issues both on and off the field. These issues have not just contained themselves to the sport of football but to other sports as well. We had a rather unfortunate and embarrassing issue last year on our home field and a more recent one at Pine Tree after a volley ball game.

Let us learn from the past and focus on the future. You young student athletes are leaders amongst your peers whether you believe it or not. There are also many young children that look up to you because you are the Hallsville VARSITY Football Team, Hallsville VARSITY Volleyball Team, etc. This also goes for the Pine Tree Varsity Teams.

As parents, alumni, faculty, staff, citizens, community and supporters, we look forward to good, clean and fierce competition between our two schools. Friday Night Football in East Texas is one of the best things in life. It is still an event for everyone to come out, celebrate, cheer, visit with neighbors, recount our youths, and marvel at our superb student athletes.

As student athletes, you will experience every human emotion at one point or another while participating in your sport of choice: Acceptance, Anxiety, Compassion, Confusion, Doubt, Empathy, Embarrassment, Forgiveness, Frustration, Gratitude, Hope, Love, and Pride. These are the times and challenges that help to forge who you are and what you stand for. How do you want to be remembered?

What we do not want you to experience are the negatives things that can be avoided or overcome by strong character: Hatred, guilt, regret, remorse or shame. Do not allow yourself to be caught up in the moment and take actions that will be detrimental to the team, the school and the community.

This goes for the fans and supporters as well. We do not accept or tolerate disruptive behavior. If you are going to conduct yourself in a manner that is unlawful and more importantly a manner that would shame your mother, do not come to the game. Any violation of law will be dealt with accordingly. This is your fair warning and it goes to everyone equally.

In closing, let us say that we want everyone from both communities to come out, cheer their team on and show the type of support that honors your community. The Hallsville and Pine Tree communities are great communities to live in, raise kids in and to be proud of. Let us show everyone else what we already know."
