ETX woman killed after SUV leaves road, hits trees

One person was killed after the driver hit a tree in Houston County around noon on Thursday.

At 11:55 a.m., a wreck was called into dispatchers from FM 228, loacted east of Grapeland. Responding troopers arrived at the scene and found a mangled SUV off the road.

The driver was heading east on 228 and left the road on a curve and hit some trees. The driver was identified as Ginger Baggett Teems, 63, of Grapeland.

The woman was taken from the scene to a nearby church parking lot to be flown to a hospital, however, she died before the helicopter arrived. Teems was pronounced dead by Judge Ronnie Jordan at 12:20 p.m.

Department of Public Safety Trooper David Hendry said Teems was not wearing a seatbelt. No additional information is available at this time.
