LUBBOCK, Texas —  A former West Texas police officer has pleaded not guilty to six child pornography-related charges. Ex-Slaton Officer Richard Lee Lewis entered the plea Wednesday before a federal magistrate in Lubbock. His trial was set for Aug. 15.

A grand jury in Lubbock indicted the 50-year-old Lewis earlier this month on three counts of transportation of child pornography, two counts of receipt of a visual depiction of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct and one count of possession of child pornography.

Lewis resigned from the Slaton Police Department last month after federal authorities seized evidence from his home. He's free on his own recognizance.
