HENDERSON, Texas (AP) - Most dogs living at a Rusk County residence where a 2-year-old boy was fatally mauled have been euthanized.
Authorities say most of the 35 to 40 dogs seized following the Nov. 10 death of Kaden Muckleroy, who was attacked at his grandfather's home, have been put down.
Animal shelter supervisor Ronnie Whittington on Monday declined to give a specific number, but say most of the dogs were euthanized. Rusk County Sheriff Danny Pirtle said the dog that killed the boy was among those euthanized.
Whittington says most of the animals had health problems. As many as half were pit bulls or pit bull mixes.
Pirtle says results of the death investigation will be turned over to prosecutors.
