Tyler , TX (KETK) — An East Texas mother was shot and killed Tuesday morning in Smith County. Deputies said, her husband, 29-year-old Adrian Mata has been arrested for her murder. The devastated family spoke exclusively to KETK.
We spoke to Jennifer Mata's childhood friend and cousin. They said this is very unexpected and Jennifer and Adrian were high school sweethearts. They said both were raised in a Christian home and they never imagined him doing such a tragic thing to their Jennifer.
"It's not right to take somebody's life away especially not like that not to a mother who has children," said close friend to Jennifer Brenda Ruiz.
Ruiz and Jennifer were friends for many years, friends since they started going to church together.
"It doesn't take blood to consider somebody family when you have them in your heart when you have them in your mind you carry them with you everyday that's more than family than blood," said Ruiz.
She described Jennifer as a very loving person.
"She was the most sweetest most kindest most beautiful individual on this earth."
Ruiz cannot believe her friend passed in such a tragic way.
"It's not the news that you would hear from family or friends Jennifer got shot, Jen Jen she got shot, what do you mean she got shot," said Ruiz.
Jennifer leaves behind three young children and a lot of family and friends.
"Shes not going to ever see her children grow up,'' said Ruiz.
"Keep us in your thoughts and prayers especially for her children she's got three young children and I couldn't imagine being without my parents or losing one of my children," said Jennifer's cousin Amanda Cerda.
"We've lost a sister, we've lost a daughter, we've lost a cousin, we've lost an aunt she was somebody so so special," said Ruiz.
Jennifer's family just asks to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
"For her brothers and sisters and for her children and for her parents I just ask that people pray for our family," said Cerda.
