TYLER — A fatal motorcycle accident in Tyler today.

Police say it happened around 5:40 pm near the intersection of Palace and Oakwood.

Witnesses say that a truck heading North on Palace turned in front of the motorcyclist and the rider struck the passenger's side of the truck.

The driver of the pickup was arrested for suspicion of intoxication manslaughter.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other injuries reported.

On Saturday March 12th at approximately 1739 hours Tyler Police responded to a major vehicle accident near the intersection of Palace and Oakwood. Upon arrival officers discovered that a motorcycle and pickup truck had collided at this intersection. Tyler Fire Department and EMS were on scene and attempted to treat the motorcycle rider.

Witnesses advised that the motorcycle was southbound on Palace in the inside lane. The pickup was northbound on Palace turning west onto Oakwood. Witnesses advised that the motorcycle had a green light and the pickup turned in front of the motorcycle (failing to yield right of way). The motorcycle struck the passenger’s side of the pickup. The driver of the pickup was arrested for suspicion of Intoxication Manslaughter.

The operator of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Q. Beavers. There were no other injuries reported at the scene.

The name of the deceased is not being released pending further investigation and notification to the family.
