CNN — The New Year means lights out for 75 watt light bulbs.

On Tuesday, under federal law, 75 watt incandescent bulbs can no longer be produced or imported.

Retailers can still sell existing stock until they run out.

The government is gradually phasing out incandescent bulbs in favor of more energy-efficient, LEDs, halogens or compact fluorescent bulbs.

100 watt incandescent bulbs were retired last year.

Traditional 60 and 40 watt bulbs will be phased out in 2014.

This report is wrong in so many ways, you did not check your facts before airing this report There is only limited space to comment, so here are a few. The person interviewed does not know what he is talking about, halogen lights, they only last 2000 hours, a 10 year warranty I doubt it, a LED Light, yes some do have a 10 year warranty. Your report implied Halogen lights have mercury in them, they do not. Compact florescent's do have Mercury. Please get the facts right before you report.

Yea, they are so 'economical' they have MERCURY in then and special HAZMAT needs in disposing of them.

Some economy.that helps, like Al Gores bank account.

And they poisons us with MERCURY instead to make us 'green'!!

Yes just like the TSA finally found out their x-ray machines caused CANCER we will find out one they their 'studies' show the MERCURY POISONS US!

I guess this is just part of OBAMACARE, right?

There was this woman featured in a news story a year or two ago who was stockpiling the "old" bulbs as a political/social/economic/defiant statement against "government control." She was adament about what was rightfully hers...light bulbs, no less!...wonder how many East Texas radical ultra-conservatives have done the same...in favor of energy hog bulbs instead of economical ones, wouldn't put it past radical rednecks having closets full to the top with your god-given allotment of old bulbs!.
