More than 150 Tyler firefighters had a boot in hand for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. For 60 years firefighters have been using their boots to raise money for the charity.

The MDA of East Texas hold several events throughout the year and for the five-day 'Fill the Boot' fundraiser Tyler firefighters were setup at several location around the city holding a boot to raise for MDA.

We stopped at a few locations and spoke to East Texans while they were filling a boot. "I think it's great for the community, it gets them accustom to seeing the firemen up close and certainly goes to a good cause, the MDA is one of my favorite charities and I'm glad to contribute," said Mike Earley.

We're told muscular dystrophy affects 1 out 50,000 people in our country. Our local heroes tell us they're thankful for all the support from the community.

Tammy Humes of Chapel Hill is a supporter of many East Texas Charities, she says Tyler Fire is doing a wonderful thing for the community. "I would like to say thank you for their service and I hope they are out here for another 60 years."

Fill the boot started on Thursday April 24 and ends Monday April 28.

I saw the firemen & truck.
Is this on taxpayer's dime- again.
MDA is a worthy cause - just has to be a better way to go about it.
Who @ City Hall is giving the OK for this?
People are too often hit with giving @ stores.
Police, firemen, Salvation Army @ Christmas, scouts, etc.
Add it up & its a nice tax deduction but, it can't be taken because no receipts are given.
There has to be a better way.
Keep the trucks in the fire barn & use their own vehicles - that's a start.
