AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A Senate budget committee is turning to
education spending.
The panel, which is combing over the proposed state budget, is
set to take up the education portion Monday, starting with the
School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the School for the
Deaf.
The Texas Education Agency also is on the agenda for the meeting
of the Senate Finance Committee.
Lawmakers are considering a state budget for 2012-13, which
they're crafting with about $15 billion less in state revenue.
In their first week of hearings, the panel heard from dozens of
needy Texans and advocates who were angry about proposed cuts to
state services.
