The Longview News-Journal — Longview firefighters assisted the Hallsville Fire Department to put out a house fire Saturday afternoon in Harrison County, Capt. Andy Parker said.
“The structure is completely destroyed,” Parker said.
The large brick home was in a rural area in Harrison County, with no other buildings nearby, he said.
The Longview Fire Department sent six firefighters, an engine and a ladder truck to assist with battling the blaze, Parker said.
It was not immediately clear how the fire began, Parker said, adding that the Harrison County Fire Marshal will make that determination within the next few days.
The fire began about 11:15 a.m. and was still smoldering several hours later, said homeowner Richard Nelson.
“I smelled smoke, got my animals and myself out and called the fire department,” Nelson said.
Nelson’s wife and son were away from the house at the time the fire began. The house is about 25 years old, he said.
