Fire safety during the holidays

October 29, 2008 - 2:10pm

TYLER - This is the time of year when firefighters fear houses will burn down or even worse, lives will be lost.

They say most of the time you can avoid these fires. The top mistakes people make are unattended cooking, leaving candles burning and overusing space heaters, firefighters said.

"The main thing is to just go through the home and make sure your not overloading your electrical outlets," Captain of the Judson Metro Volunteer Fire Department, Tom Keith, said.

One last tip, install smoke alarms on every level of your house and test them each month.
