Longview Mayor Jay Dean formally filed his application Monday for run for a third and final term as mayor.

Meanwhile, in local school board elections, one person has filed to challenge Longview ISD Board President Sam Satterwhite, while Pine Tree and Spring Hill’s school board presidents will also have opponents should the incumbents seek re-election.

Monday was the first day of filing for local city council and school board elections. The filing period runs through March 5.

Dean announced his decision to seek re-election Friday. If re-elected, it would be his final three years in office because of term limits. District 1 Councilman John Sims indicated he intends to seek a third term, but had not filed for re-election as of Monday. District 2 will see a new face in a few months, though no one had filed for the office Monday. Councilman Daryl Williams is completing his third, and final, three-year term this spring and is not eligible for re-election.
