Longview middle school students gathered around a fire truck Monday to learn what it takes to become a firefighter at the first Career Inspire event at Maude Cobb Convention Center.

About 700 eighth grade students from Forest Park, Foster and Judson middle schools visited with representatives from local businesses to explore career options and learn about the skills needed to land those jobs.

“We want to expose the students to different careers available so they can make more informed choices,” said Kelly Kinsey, LEDCO youth career development director.
