Smith County, Texas — Cherokee County Investigators have arrested 21 yr. old Jimmy Lance Gilliland of Flint in connection with the Sept 13th residential burglary that occurred in the ShadyBrook Subdivision near Bullard.

After the photos and video from the surveillance system was aired on local news stations and on websites, the Sheriff's Office received multiple calls beginning Saturday morning from people giving Gilliland's information as a possible suspect.  Several other names were given as well, but follow-up on the investigation ruled the other individuals out.

Deputies and investigators began following up on the information and it was discovered that Gilliland and another individual (Michael Taylor Oldham - 20 YOA, Flint)  had taken some of the stolen property to Texican Coin and Bullion Company, in Tyler, on Thursday (09/13) evening, several hours after the burglary.  Gilliland and Oldham, who has not yet been implicated in the burglary, returned to Texican Coin & Bullion on Friday (09/14) morning with more of the coins, and their ID's, which were needed to sell the valuables.

Video from Texican Coin & Bullion was obtained while Investigators continued the search for Gilliland on Monday and Tuesday.  On Tuesday afternoon Det. Mike Goff received a phone call from Gilliland's family member, who advised he would bring him to the Sheriff's Office first thing Wednesday morning.
All but 5 of the stolen coins were recovered on Monday and the pistols were recovered on Tuesday when they were found stashed in the woods behind a home on Big Eddy Road in Smith County.
On Wednesday (09/19/12) at approximately 9:00am, Gilliland was brought to the Sheriff's Office and was booked in on one count of Burglary of a Habitation, a 2nd Degree Felony.  Gilliland's bond was set at $25,000 by Justice of the Peace Brenda Dominy, and was released several hours later after posting the bond.

The video and photos were instrumental in the quick resolution of this case, combined with the assistance from the general public and their willingness to contact us with the information.  It's important to remember that burglaries, thefts and other crimes not only affected the home owners and property owners, they can have an impact on many people and businesses in the area.  In this particular instance, Texican Coin is out a sizeable amount and is a victim of this selfish act also.
