EAST TEXAS—Heavy rainfall across east Texas causes several roads and schools to close Wednesday.
In Smith County, CR 426 and 452 have been closed due to high water. Officials say CR 448 can be traveled with caution until it reaches CR 446 which will remain closed until further notice.
In Wood County, a dam broke on Vickory Lake near the intersection of Highway 37 and CR 2330. Wood County firefighters were on scene Tuesday trying to pump water out of the area and putting sand bags in. Three homes were evacuated in the area due to high water.
Due to flooding, Harmony ISD will be closed Wednesday. However, faculty and staff will work from 8 a.m. to noon. Gilmer ISD will also be closed Wednesday but faculty is to report as normal. Van ISD will delay classes Wednesday, starting two hours later than normal. Big Sandy school officials are also delaying classes, school will start at 9 a.m. and school buses will run one hour later than normal.
