The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report a nationwide shortage of the liquid form of Tamiflu.

East Texas pharmacies we spoke say, they're prepared. As the flu season spikes a leading flu medication is in demand.

Pharmacy Manager at Walgreens in Tyler, Kendall Lemke says, it's never good news when you hear about a Tamiflu shortage especially when it's in demand.

As of January there are 12 confirmed flu deaths in East Texas. "When you start taking Tamiflu within 48 hours of the symptoms of flu it can reduce having the flu by a day or 2," said Lemke.

Lemke says, he's not seeing a shortage across East Texas, yet. "In East Texas we've had a lot of flu cases but what we've done is we've ordered up on some of the Tamiflu and been able to shift the supply between different stores, if one store runs low we'll be able to shift or supply around to meet the demand of the patients."

Even though the Tamiflu shortage really isn't affecting East Texas pharmacies, pharmacists suggest preventative measures.

"The flu shot is the best thing the prevent the flu," said Lemke.

Lemke says, it'll protect you from the dominant strain H1-N1, and it's not too late to get the flu shot.
