Hallsville High School freshman Sharleis Dunn danced and celebrated Tuesday night with her Forever Friend, Sheila Timberlake.

“We’ve spent a lot of time together the past year shopping, eating out, doing church activities and talking,” said Timberlake, Sharleis’ mentor.

Timberlake is a mentor in Forever Friends, a program that pairs women with young girls. About 160 students and mentors ate, hula-hooped and danced the night away Tuesday in a year-end bash for the mentoring program, which is offered by Partners in Prevention.

“The program is all about helping young people develop positive stories in their lives,” said Lyndell McAllister, mentoring program director.

She has been involved with Forever Friends since its beginning in 1995.

Timberlake, a pastor and paralegal, said she joined the program a year ago because she wanted to show children they can achieve their goals.
