A former Oklahoma-based doctor has been brought back to the state to face murder charges.

Police arrested William Valuck, 71, at his home in Texas on Friday.

He is charged with nine counts of homicide and 43 counts of drug distribution.

Authorities say eight of his patients that died of prescription drug overdoses and another patient was accused of causing a fatal traffic accident.

Reports in 2002 say that Valuck was convicted of money laundering, wire fraud and scheming to defraud investors of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

He spent several years in federal prison before being released and moving to Texas.

This is a tragedy since doctors are taught the Hippocratic Oath includes the promise "to abstain from doing harm" (Greek: ἐπὶ δηλήσει δὲ καὶ ἀδικίῃ εἴρξειν).
Unfortunately this is the tip of the iceberg. Many docs are given "free passes" because of their title/position. Yet, they are fueling the prescription drug addiction problem. Florida is a mecca for these docs- specifically central and south FL with people coming as far away as Kentucky & MA doc shopping & buying 1,000s of pills to sell.
