FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - A 20-year-old Fort Hood soldier from San Antonio is dead of wounds suffered in an insurgent attack on his unit in Afghanistan.

A Fort Hood statement issued Tuesday says Pfc. Diego Miguel Montoya died Thursday in the attack in hilly Laghman province in eastern Afghanistan. 

Montoya was serving with the 64th Military Police Company, 720th Military Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood.

He had been a military policeman since joining the Army in July 2009 and had been in Afghanistan since April.
