FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - The Fort Hood shooting suspect's attorney wants to close a key hearing over concerns that his client cannot get a fair trial on the sprawling Texas Army post.
The issue is to be addressed Thursday at a hearing at Fort Hood. Defense attorney John Galligan said Wednesday that Maj. Nidal Hasan cannot get a fair trial if the media and others are allowed to attend next month's Article 32 hearing, similar to a grand jury proceeding in which a military officer will determine if there's
enough evidence for a trial.
Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in the Nov. 5 shooting. Military prosecutors have said the 32 injured victims will testify during the Article 32 hearing.
